Valued at $50,000 a year for a maximum of three years, the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships are designed to reward leading doctoral students from around the world for their leadership and academic achievement in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences, engineering and health sciences.

University Affairs talked to one 2009 Vanier recipient, Danielle Peers, a PhD student at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation. Danielle is also a talented wheelchair basketball player and coach, and she will be exploring the experiences of athletes who cross both ways between able-bodied and disabled sports.
