Shawna Cunningham of the University of Calgary was appointed director of Indigenous strategy at the university, effective Oct. 1. Ms. Cunningham has directed the university’s Native Centre for nearly two decades. Before joining U of Calgary, she was a program administrator for an Indigenous education program at Mount Royal University.

Elizabeth Brimacombe is the new dean of social sciences at Vancouver Island University, effective Oct. 4. Dr. Brimacombe joins VIU from the psychology department at the University of Victoria and has 25 years of experience in postsecondary education. She holds a PhD in social psychology from Iowa State University.

Beverley Hale becomes the new associate vice-president of research (agri-food partnership) at the University of Guelph, starting on Jan. 1, 2018. Dr. Hale earned her PhD from U of Guelph and is currently the associate dean of research and graduate studies in the Ontario Agricultural College. As an environmental sciences professor, her research focuses on soil conservation and sustainable mining.

As of July 1, Kelly Regan is the new chair of the board of directors at King’s University College, affiliated with Western University. Dr. Regan, a physician, has been a member of the board of directors since 2010 and vice-chair since 2015. She is also an associate professor at Western’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Patrick Small Legs-Nagge is Mount Saint Vincent University’s first special advisor to the president on Aboriginal affairs. Mr. Small Legs-Nagge is a member of the Piikani First Nation and most recently worked with Health Canada as director of mental wellness for First Nation and Inuit health, Atlantic Region. He recently developed curriculum for and taught in the Mi’kmaw Mental Wellness & Addictions Certificate program at the Nova Scotia Community College.

Colleen Keyes is the new chair of Mount Saint Vincent University’s board of governors, as of May 2017. Ms. Keyes is a partner in the law firm of Stewart McKelvey and has been recognized as a Top 40 under 40 rising star in Lexpert Magazine and in Best Lawyers in Canada. She is a member of the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships and the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society.

Greg Bavington will serve a second five-year term as executive director of the Dunin-Deshpande Queen’s Innovation Centre, overseeing student and community entrepreneurship initiatives at Queen’s. He was previously president and CEO of KN Rubber LLC and has served as an elected member of Queen’s University Council and on the Queen’s Engineering Society board of directors.
