Innovative Design for Accessibility (IDeA) student competition

The Innovative Design for Accessibility (IDeA) student competition aims to inspire students to use their creativity to develop innovative, cost-effective and practical solutions to accessibility-related issues resulting in communities that are more accessible for persons with disabilities. The objectives of the program are to :

contribute to the creation of a culture of accessibility in Canada
motivate students to think about accessibility issues and to include accessibility in their creation of social and technological innovations now and in the future
develop cost-effective, practical and innovative concepts, programs, initiatives or designs that address everyday accessibility issues

The IDeA competition runs from March 1 to May 31, 2018 at 11:59 pm (EST).

John Brown University of Calgary

John Brown has been appointed dean of the University of Calgary’s faculty of environmental design, effective March 1. Dr. Brown has been an academic staff member in the faculty for more than 30 years, serving as interim dean since May 2017 and previously as associate dean, research and international. He is a registered architect and fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He is a founding principal of the design firm Housebrand and a co-founder of Slow Home, an international movement advocating for increased design quality in North America’s housing market.
