We interrupt our regular programming to bring you this important news flash:

University Affairs has just been named a finalist in three separate categories in the first ever Canadian Online Publishing Awards. The awards program, produced by Masthead, recognizes excellence in online editorial content and innovation by Canadian magazine and website publishers.

University Affairs was competing in the “blue” division for business-to-business, professional association, farm and scholarly websites. We were a finalist in the categories of overall best magazine website, overall best design and best blog (the gallery of finalists is here). In the latter category, we scored two of the three finalist nods, to yours truly for my Margin Notes blog and to Carolyn Steele for her Career Sense blog.

According to Masthead, all entries “were reviewed by an independent judging panel of highly regarded industry professionals and experts.”

The winners will be announced on Oct. 26, while all finalists will be presented with a dandy certificate suitable for framing. I have a space on the wall of my office already marked out.

Seriously, all of us here at University Affairs are pleased and honoured. We do feel we’ve built a pretty fine website that serves our community well, and it’s satisfying to get that recognition.

And now back to our regular programming …
