The Black Hole

The Versatile PhD

BY BETH | OCT 12 2010

Another site has recently come to our attention and Dave and I though that fans of The Black Hole might be interested in checking it out – it’s called  The Versatile PhD and its mission is to

help humanities and social science PhDs develop and demonstrate their versatility as professionals.  We want you to be informed about academic employment realities, educated about nonacademic career options, and supported in preparing for a range of possible careers, so that in the end, you have choices.  The key concept here is versatility:  the ability to apply your skills and interests in a wide variety of fields.

While its focus is on humanities and social sciences, a lot of the issues discussed there will resonate with science grads who are considering, or have moved to, nonacademic jobs. It’s chalk full of job postings, event postings, and discussions forums. Check it out and let us know what you think!!

Note: We have no affiliation with the Versatile PhD – just thought some of you might be interested.
